Do I need a fancy sewing machine or can I use the one I have? Does it need to be a quilting machine?

You DO NOT need a fancy sewing machine to be able to piece a quilt. As long as your machine has the capability of sewing a straight stitch you are ok. A zig zag stitch that can be adjusted for a satin stitch is helpful for applique.

Do I have to have previous sewing experience to begin to quilt? Are there classes for beginners?

You do not have to have previous sewing experience, just the desire to learn. We have many classes for the new quilter with little to no experience. Some of our clients have never sewn before and others have sewn clothing previously. We strongly recommend if you are interested in getting into quilting, take the Beginning Sampler class which we offer. This class is for 9 weeks and takes you from the basics of picking out fabric to completing a queen size quilt. This is a required class for some of the other classes that we offer, so that everyone in the class is on the same page as far as skill level. There are many classes that we offer that are a great way for beginners to get a taste of the craft. Please feel free to stop in and see some of the examples of the classes that we offer. Many of the popular classes repeat throughout the year.

Do you have sewing machines for rent?

At this time we do not have sewing machines for rent. You will need to bring to class your machine and all tools, unless it is a non sewing lecture type format class.

Do I need to register for a class or can I just show up?

You need to register for all classes as they have a minimum and maximum set. In order to secure a spot in class you need to pay a deposit plus the cost for any pattern, book or kit. Some classes fill up early so be sure to register as soon as you can!

How do I know what to bring to my first night of class?

You will be given a supply list upon registrating for class. On that list will be all the items that you need for your first night of class. Additional supply lists will be given throughtout the classes.

I have a terrible time picking fabrics, any suggestions?

A lot of people say that, but when it comes down to picking fabrics we all know what we like and don't like. For some of our classes fabric selection is made the first night due to different variables that you may need for the particular project. Our staff is always available to help you along the way. When coming into the store to pick out your fabric for a project, please allow yourself plenty of time.

On the beginning sampler quilt for example, what can I expect for cost of my fabric?

When choosing fabric there are many different types and costs involved. It is said that a reasonable range is between 100 - 120 for fabric costs. This is done the first night of the class. Remember this is just an example for the beginning sampler quilt which entails 8 different fabrics of various lengths. This will be for a full - queen size quilt top depending on the border width you choose.
